{"id":38161,"date":"2024-07-09T13:51:54","date_gmt":"2024-07-09T13:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=38161"},"modified":"2024-07-09T13:51:54","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T13:51:54","slug":"unn-pioneers-innovative-biotherapeutic-biotechnological-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/07\/09\/unn-pioneers-innovative-biotherapeutic-biotechnological-research\/","title":{"rendered":"UNN Pioneers Innovative Biotherapeutic, Biotechnological Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Gabriella Ogbu<\/p>\n<p>The University of Nigeria, Nsukka&#8217;s Faculty of Biological Sciences has made a bold move by focusing its research efforts on developing biotherapeutic and biotechnological solutions to the numerous biosciences and biomedical challenges that modern society faces.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Johnson Urama, on behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Romanus Ezeokonkwo, opened the Faculty&#8217;s fourth Bioscience and Biotechnology conference. Prof. Ezeokonkwo thanked the Dean for his creative leadership and expressed hope that the conference&#8217;s outcomes would spur further research in the fields of biotechnology and biotherapeutics.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed gratitude to attendees for their confidence in the University of Nigeria and the Faculty of Biological Sciences, noting that this confidence led to a record number of abstract submissions for the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Professor Emeka I. Nweze, the Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, stated during the opening ceremony that one of the faculty&#8217;s strategic action plans is to support the Nigerian people and government in addressing their current biomedical, bioscience, and biotechnology-related challenges. He highlighted the quality and focus of the papers submitted by participants and staff as evidence of the Faculty&#8217;s leadership in innovative research.<\/p>\n<p>The Dean noted that for the past 23 months, his administration has consciously created an environment that facilitates state-of-the-art research for his personnel in their chosen fields of interest. He welcomed the attendees and expressed appreciation for their continued trust in the Faculty since the inception of the Bioscience conference series.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Emmanuel Chekwube Ossai, the local organizing committee&#8217;s chairman and an associate professor in the faculty&#8217;s Department of Biochemistry, addressed the crowd at the conference&#8217;s opening ceremony. He stated that the theme of this year&#8217;s conference\u2014the fourth in the series\u2014was designed to bring together researchers from across the country and beyond to showcase their latest findings and advancements in bioscience, biotechnology, and biotherapeutics. The conference also aimed to create an ideal setting for forming new scientific partnerships and exchanging knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from all over the world attended the two-day Faculty of Biological Sciences, UNN conference. The keynote presentation was given by Professor Umezuruike Linus Okpara of Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Other plenary speakers included Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwu Eke of Michigan State University&#8217;s Department of Microbiology, Genetics, and Immunology; Professor Okechukwu Abonyi of Alex-Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and Chisom Onu of Wayne State University, USA.<\/p>\n<p>About 160 people registered for the well-attended conference, which featured 125 presentations in the areas of bioscience, biotechnology, and biotherapeutics.
