In the latest FIFA men’s rankings for October 2023, Nigeria maintained their 40th position. Despite securing a victory and a draw in their recent friendly matches during the international break, Nigeria’s ranking remained the same as in the previous FIFA world rankings released in September.<\/p>\n
During the month under review, the Super Eagles gained 1.62 points, bringing their total points to 1490.48. They played a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia and won 3-2 against Mozambique in their two friendly games. However, these results did not have a significant impact on their position in the rankings.<\/p>\n
The decline in Nigeria’s ranking, dropping from 35th in Africa to 40th, was attributed to their non-participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. They had briefly held the 39th position in the rankings in June and July but slipped back to 40th in September.<\/p>\n
On the African continent, Nigeria remains the sixth-ranked team. In contrast, Morocco maintains its position as Africa’s top-ranked nation and 13th in the world rankings. Senegal also holds onto the 20th place globally and secures the second position in Africa.<\/p>\n
Tunisia, which was the only African country among the top six on the continent to make progress globally last month, dropped in the latest rankings. They were ranked 29th previously but now occupy the 32nd position in the world. Algeria (33) and Egypt (35) complete the top five in Africa.<\/p>\n
