The incident occurred on Monday when Yushau climbed a broadcast mast owned by Aso Television and Radio in the Katampe area of Abuja to protest against insecurity and hardship in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The FCT Police Command\u2019s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement titled, \u201cAso Radio Mast Climbing: Man Arrested for Attempted Suicide.\u201d She explained that Yushau had been planning the act for about a week before deciding to climb the mast.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Following a distress call from concerned citizens about a young man who climbed a very high mast with a placard at ASO Radio in Katampe at about 09:10 a.m, the operatives of the FCT Police Command swiftly mobilized to the location,&#8221; Adeh stated. &#8220;With much professional persuasion from the police operatives, the man, later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau, was prevented from taking his own life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yushau\u2019s placard highlighted his protest against the prevailing insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria. According to Adeh, Yushau confessed during interrogation that he had been observing the mast for about a week, planning his protest.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The suspect is presently in police custody and in a stable condition,&#8221; Adeh confirmed. She added that the police are conducting further investigations to understand the full context of Yushau&#8217;s actions and to ensure appropriate measures are taken.<\/p>\n<p>This incident underscores the growing frustration and desperation among some Nigerians due to the country&#8217;s security challenges and economic difficulties. The police have emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and urged citizens to seek help rather than resorting to drastic measures.<\/p>\n<p>The FCT Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining security and order while providing support to individuals facing mental health crises. &#8220;We urge anyone experiencing emotional distress or hardship to reach out to the appropriate channels for assistance. The police and other support services are here to help,&#8221; Adeh reiterated.<\/p>\n<p>The police also called on community leaders, religious organizations, and non-governmental organizations to collaborate in addressing the underlying issues contributing to such acts of desperation.
