The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has inaugurated a 19-member technical committee tasked with the relocation of mechanics and technicians currently operating along road corridors in Apo and other areas to Wasa District, Abuja. This initiative is part of the administration’s broader plan to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of Nigeria’s capital city.<\/p>\n
The committee was inaugurated by Mr. Felix Obuah, the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), in a ceremony held in Abuja. Obuah highlighted that this move aligns with the directives of the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who has emphasized the importance of relocating those occupying critical roadways to facilitate road construction and urban development.<\/p>\n
“The relocation is a strategic effort to give Abuja a new look,” Obuah stated. He added that the Wike-led FCT Administration is committed to providing a better alternative before demolishing temporary and illegal sites. “The decision to relocate rather than demolish is part of our strategy to ensure a smooth transition,” Obuah explained. “We want to provide a better alternative for those currently occupying the road corridors, particularly the Apo Mechanic Village. This will pave the way for necessary road expansions and new constructions.”<\/p>\n
The Apo Mechanic Village, which has grown significantly over the years, is currently located on a vital road corridor.
