Speaking at the Future Unilever Campus Ambassador Program event on Thursday at the University of Lagos, Kundra emphasized the importance of acquiring 21st-century skills.<\/p>\n<p>Kundra noted that young individuals equipped with these modern skills would be highly sought after both domestically and globally. He revealed that UNICEF aims to equip 20 million young people with 21st-century skills by 2026. As part of this initiative, UNICEF is partnering with Unilever Nigeria PLC to train 700,000 Nigerian youths, preparing them to thrive in the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The goal is to expose young people to skills that can transform society and make them professionals,&#8221; Kundra stated. These essential skills include resilience, critical thinking, teamwork, digital and financial literacy, and communication.<\/p>\n<p>Kundra encouraged young people to embrace such initiatives, stressing the importance of seizing opportunities and leveraging valuable information. He shared a recent example where 500 participants in an entrepreneurship training were awarded cash prizes for their efforts. &#8220;Maintaining optimism attracts support from various organizations,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the challenges faced by youth, Kundra acknowledged issues like access to electricity and the internet. However, he expressed confidence in the resilience and optimism of young people as agents of change who can overcome these obstacles.<\/p>\n<p>Zainab Ajadi, a people partner at Unilever Nigeria and lead project coordinator of the FUCAP seminar, highlighted the importance of acquiring skills for workforce success and independence. She explained that the entrepreneurship concept aims to develop future employers and entrepreneurs willing to take risks to grow their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Ajadi emphasized the collaboration with UNICEF as a means to raise awareness and prepare young people for the future, enabling them to lead meaningful lives. &#8220;One of the challenges is getting young people to think differently and see the future, so they can adapt well,&#8221; she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa, the University of Lagos&#8217; Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Development Services, added that the university is dedicated to creating opportunities and giving graduates a competitive edge in the job market through its entrepreneurship programs. &#8220;We are committed to providing our students with the tools and skills needed to excel and make a significant impact in their careers,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Gabriella Ogbu Bharat Kundra, a UNICEF Nigeria programme specialist, has called on Nigerian youth to be proactive, seek opportunities, and maintain a positive outlook.
