The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has seized 11,650 litres of petroleum motor spirits (PMS) in its ongoing efforts to combat illegal smuggling across the country.<\/p>\n
Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike disclosed the seizures to newsmen on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi. He reported additional recoveries including 40 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 50 bales of secondhand clothing, 28 cartons of Diclofenac tablets (50mg), and 10 jerry cans of vegetable oils. The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized goods amounted to \u20a614,792,400.<\/p>\n
Ojike noted that the seized PMS would be auctioned to the public, generating an expected revenue of \u20a68,178,183 for the Federal Government. He also highlighted that the command generated \u20a625,847,611 in June, marking a 67.6% increase compared to May.<\/p>\n
In a separate briefing, National Coordinator Operation WHIRLWIND, Hussien Ejibunu, detailed significant seizures made by operatives in the Sokoto Area Command. The operation dismantled smuggling networks and seized 661 kegs of PMS (each containing 30 to 40 litres), 15 drums of PMS (each holding 200 litres), totaling 79,500 litres of PMS with a DPV of \u20a655,729,500. Additionally, one filling station was sealed and handed over to the regulatory agency NMDPRA for further investigation.<\/p>\n
Ejibunu emphasized that the operation, coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser, NMDPRA, and other law enforcement agencies, will continue until smuggling and diversion of petroleum products are eradicated.<\/p>\n
