The traditional ruler of Muri Emirate, Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida, has denied allegations of destroying farmlands belonging to the Mumuye ethnic group in Kachalla Ward, Ardo-Kola local government area of Taraba State. Addressing journalists on Thursday in Jalingo, the Emir called the accusations false and emphasized his commitment to protecting the interests of local farmers and the community.<\/p>\n

The Mumuye Cultural Development Association Youth Wing, led by its National President, Ezekiel Augustine, had accused the Emir of confiscating and destroying their farmlands and crops. They urged Governor Agbu Kefas to intervene, seeking compensation and the return of the lands.<\/p>\n

In response, the Emir invited journalists to inspect the contested farmlands. He maintained that the lands were legally his, having purchased them from the Mumuye people, and denied any attempts to destroy crops or evict farmers. Presenting supporting documents, the Emir expressed satisfaction that journalists visited the farms before seeking his clarification.<\/p>\n

The Emir’s farm manager, Umoru Kona, also refuted the allegations, stating that the dispute began when the Emir requested portions of the land to cultivate grass for his cattle. Mumuye elders confirmed the sale of the land to the Emir and urged the youth to avoid actions that could disrupt community peace.<\/p>\n
