A teacher named Mrs. Faith Nwoye has been sentenced to 21 years in prison by a special court that handles cases involving women and children. The sentence follows her fatal beating of a nine-year-old student, Master Henry Okonkwo, at Landmark International School Mgbakwu in the Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.<\/p>\n
Master Henry Okonkwo tragically passed away in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Awka after being put into a coma by his instructor. His funeral took place in his hometown of Igbakwu, located in the Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state, as reported by The Nation.<\/p>\n
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, expressed deep concern over the preventable death of one of the state’s young students. She emphasized that if Henry had been enrolled in a recognized school run by professionals, his death could have been avoided, according to the Nigerian Tribune.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Ifeoma Onyeneke, the Director of Schools in the Ministry of Education, attended Henry’s funeral and highlighted the state government’s stance on unlicensed schools.
