{"id":37524,"date":"2024-07-04T11:32:46","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T11:32:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=37524"},"modified":"2024-07-04T11:32:46","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T11:32:46","slug":"ndlea-advocates-for-compulsory-drug-screening-for-kano-wedding-couples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/07\/04\/ndlea-advocates-for-compulsory-drug-screening-for-kano-wedding-couples\/","title":{"rendered":"NDLEA Advocates for Compulsory Drug Screening for Kano Wedding Couples"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kano State has proposed a mandatory drug test for prospective couples as part of measures to reduce drug abuse in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The NDLEA Commander in Kano, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, made this known\u00a0on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agency has introduced the Drug Intergrity Test Initiative anticipated to metamorphose into an anti-drug culture for every Nigerian\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Idris-Ahmad said the drug test would serve as a tool for the prevention of drug abuse and early detection of individuals and couples status of drug use for appropriate treatment and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>He said the proposed law for the test became necessary to address the high rate of marriage breakdowns and reduce drug abuse among married couples in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He stated, \u201cInvestigations have shown that one spouse often introduces the other to drugs after marriage and their children, hindering efforts to combat drug abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He called on the Kano State House of Assembly to enact a law requiring drug tests before marriage.<\/p>\n<p>The commander appealed to women, youths and the general public to shun drug abuse and work together to move the state and nation forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe test initiative approach seeks to tackle drug abuse at its roots, promoting a healthier and more sustainable society\u201d Mr Idris-Ahmad said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"adredux after-para-one aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"adbox\">\n<div class=\"JC-WIDGET-DMROOT\" data-widget-id=\"ca69f5950aba1bbefee2c18f61cc5289\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"v-gazettengr-0\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div id=\"_vdo_ads_player_ai_25112\" class=\"vdo_video_unit vdo_content\">\n<div id=\"vdo_logo_parent\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kano State has proposed a mandatory drug test for prospective couples as part of measures to reduce drug abuse in the state.
