This group, which claims to be apolitical, aims to revitalize the state’s political culture and advance the collective interest of its people in a progressive manner.

The KRM’s objectives are outlined in a position paper, highlighting the need for a more holistic approach to the state’s political affairs. The two major parties in Kwara State, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have dominated the political scene, with the APC taking over leadership from the PDP in 2019.

However, the new group, led by Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, a former chief whip in the Kwara State House of Assembly and a legal practitioner, noted a “grave political void” in the state’s political landscape. Oyedepo emphasized that no organization has ever championed the comprehensive interests of the state’s populace, necessitating the formation of a robust group like KRM to address this gap.

An investigation by the Abuja City Journal revealed that KRM’s membership spans the major political divides and includes representatives from all three senatorial districts of the state. The movement’s primary concern, as stated in its position paper, is the alleged poor leadership that has plagued the state for years, often resulting from subpar selection processes. These processes have reportedly hindered the state’s development and progress.

KRM’s leadership is committed to reaching out to notable individuals and groups to unite the people and ensure that principles of equity and fairness prevail in the state by 2027. The group stresses the importance of rectifying past mistakes that have led to dysfunctional governments, characterized by misplaced priorities and economic mismanagement.

Extending its reach, the KRM plans to engage various stakeholders in discussions and collaborations to foster a more inclusive and equitable political environment. The movement aims to create a platform where the voices of the people are heard, and their interests are prioritized.

In preparation for the 2027 general elections, a new political bloc, known as the Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM), has emerged in Kwara State.
