This plea marks SSANU&#8217;s final effort to maintain industrial harmony amidst escalating tensions.<\/p>\n<p>Following the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), comprising SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), SSANU has intensified efforts to engage with the federal government. The aim is to secure the release of the withheld salaries before the impending deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, President of SSANU, conveyed the association&#8217;s frustration in a communiqu\u00e9, criticizing the government for what he described as unprecedented insensitivity and divisive tactics aimed at creating discord within universities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While our colleagues in ASUU have received their withheld salaries, SSANU and NASU, who followed all legal protocols before initiating industrial action, are yet to receive similar treatment,&#8221; Ibrahim stated.<\/p>\n<p>Despite assurances from government officials and media coverage, including commitments from the House of Representatives, the promised resolution of the salary arrears remains unfulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having exhausted all avenues for dialogue, the NEC has unanimously endorsed a comprehensive industrial action commencing on Thursday, July 4, 2024, should the government fail to honor its commitment to pay the four months&#8217; salary arrears,&#8221; Ibrahim declared.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the salary arrears issue, SSANU criticized the inadequacy of the government&#8217;s approved wage award of N35,000 to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
