Over 100 demonstrators obstructed the entrances to the Thales factory on Wednesday, urging the company to sever its ties with Israel.

The protesters demanded that the UK government ban arms exports to Israel, amplifying their calls for an end to the violence in Gaza. This demonstration follows a similar protest outside Thales last month, which resulted in four arrests and injuries to six police officers.

One of the demonstrators, Ms. Katy, a 28-year-old university employee who preferred not to disclose her surname, expressed her solidarity with the Palestinian people. “In Palestine, homes, hospitals, mosques, churches, schools, and universities have been willfully destroyed by Israel through relentless aerial bombardments,” she said. “Today, people are here to hit the companies profiting from the genocide because they cannot stand by while people in Palestine suffer uncountable horrors and humiliation. We are bringing Scottish solidarity to the people of Palestine.”

The blockade at Thales is part of a broader campaign to highlight the role of international companies in the ongoing conflict. Protesters argue that by supplying arms and military technology to Israel, firms like Thales are complicit in the violence against Palestinians. They believe that an arms embargo by the UK government could significantly impact the dynamics of the conflict, potentially leading to a reduction in hostilities and a push towards a ceasefire.

The call for action against Thales also includes appeals for the company to re-evaluate its business practices and consider the ethical implications of its partnerships. Activists are using this protest to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to pressure corporations and governments to take a stand against the violence.

Thales and the UK government have been approached for comment on the protest and the demands of the demonstrators. As of now, there has been no official response from either party.

This protest is part of a growing movement in the UK and around the world, where people are increasingly vocal about their opposition to the conflict in Gaza. The demonstrators hope that their actions will inspire others to join the cause and demand an end to the violence. They believe that international solidarity and pressure can make a difference in achieving peace and justice for the Palestinian people.

Pro-Palestinian protesters have blockaded a defense and security company in Edinburgh, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
