The Southeast Governors\u2019 Forum has announced plans to engage with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).<\/p>\n
This decision was revealed by the forum chairman and Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, following a meeting at the Government House in Enugu.<\/p>\n
Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the forum is committed to addressing pressing issues affecting the Southeast geopolitical zone. He highlighted their intention to have a direct dialogue with President Tinubu to discuss these concerns comprehensively.<\/p>\n
In addition to their plans regarding Nnamdi Kanu, the forum also discussed other significant matters. Uzodimma shared that they received a distinguished delegation consisting of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Emeka Anyaoku, and the Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Achebe.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe forum deliberated on the review of the report from the Southeast security summit held in September 2023. We have agreed to implement the recommendations concerning the security and economic degradation of our region,\u201d Uzodimma stated.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cWe are committed to putting actionable plans into place to address the key issues we have identified.\u201d<\/p>\n
Moreover, the forum announced the formation of a burial committee for the late Ogbonnaya Onu, the former Minister of Science and Technology. This committee will be chaired by former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, with former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi serving as the secretary.<\/p>\n
