He stated, “As part of the initiatives and incentives to drive this new policy, Abia Government plans to introduce CNG-powered buses to close up whatever gaps that will be created by the full implementation of this restriction policy.”

In response to public feedback and to sustain extended business hours, the Abia State Government has postponed the enforcement of the restriction policy from July 1 to August 1. This decision allows more time for adaptation and preparation.

Mr. Kanu highlighted that tricycle and motorcycle operators interested in transitioning to the CNG-powered buses could do so by forming cooperatives and working in clusters. “The bottom line will be to access these buses so that there will be no gaps in terms of people missing out on earning income,” he stated.

The introduction of CNG-powered buses aims to ensure uninterrupted commuter movement across the state, particularly in the bustling areas of Aba and Umuahia, once the restriction orders take effect.

Additionally, preparations are underway for the official implementation of the restriction policy on August 1. This includes the enumeration and registration of all commercial vehicles, aligning them with the new policy requirements. These measures are critical to the seamless transition and enforcement of the new transport regulations.

The Abia Government’s move to adopt CNG-powered buses underscores a broader commitment to sustainable and efficient transportation solutions, balancing economic activities with environmental considerations. By adopting cleaner fuel alternatives, the state not only addresses immediate transport needs but also contributes to long-term environmental goals.

The Abia Government has unveiled plans to secure Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses to enhance the state’s transport system, following a newly implemented policy restricting the operational hours of tricycles and motorcycles in Umuahia and Aba.
