This declaration was made by DHQ spokesman Edward Buba in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr. Buba reported that recent military operations have successfully targeted the leadership of terrorist groups, significantly depleting their resources, reducing their support base, and diminishing their influence. He emphasized that the terrorists’ recent cowardly attacks on innocent citizens were desperate attempts to project an image of strength to mask their actual decline.

“Citizens must see through the smoke screen of the terrorists,” Mr. Buba urged. “We must realize that these terrorists aim to counter reports of their weakness and create panic among the general population. The military is aware that in this phase of their ending life-cycle, the terrorists are desperate to attract attention, bolster relevancy, mobilize new recruits, reduce support for the armed forces, and decrease support for the government.”

He continued, “We call on citizens to stand united, remain vigilant, and continue to support the efforts of the armed forces to ensure a secure and peaceful future. The fate of the terrorists that perpetrated this insecurity will be violent and short, as troops will stop at nothing to take them out of the battlefield.”

Recalling recent incidents, Mr. Buba highlighted that troops of the Joint Task Force Operations Hadin Kai in the North East theatre had recorded a series of reprehensible terror attacks in Gworza LGA. These coordinated attacks, which occurred on June 29, involved multiple-persons-borne-improvised-explosive-device (PBIED) attacks, commonly known as suicide bombings, targeting both communities and troops enforcing a curfew.

“On the whole, 20 persons were killed, while 52 sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment,” Mr. Buba stated. “The armed forces view every life lost as a result of the ongoing war, whether civilian or military, as an immense tragedy. The sad loss of lives is a tragedy for the society, community, and the nation.”

Mr. Buba extended condolences on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, and all officers and members of the armed forces. “We express our heartfelt condolences and mourn with all who have lost loved ones. We also commiserate with all victims needing healing and recovery.”

Extending his remarks, Mr. Buba reaffirmed the military’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and its citizens. He reiterated that the armed forces are unwavering in their resolve to eradicate the terrorist threat and restore peace and security across Nigeria.

The Defence Headquarters has issued a stern warning that the fate of the terrorists causing insecurity in the nation will be “violent and short,” as military forces are determined to eliminate them from the battlefield.
