Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has revealed that the Agro-Cargo Airport project located along the Ilisan-Iperu road in the Ikenne Local Government Area of the state is expected to be operational for commercial flights by December. The governor made this announcement during an inspection of the ongoing work at the cargo airport, as reported in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Lekan Adeniran.<\/p>\n
Governor Abiodun further shared his anticipation that the state government would recover all project expenses, as several international aviation companies have shown keen interest in obtaining concessions for operations. He indicated that the concessioning process is scheduled to be completed within the next one and a half months, allowing the state to recoup the funds invested in the facility.<\/p>\n
The governor expressed, “I’m sure that in the next 30 to 45 days, we should sign the dotted lines of the concessioning of this airport, which would mean that everything the airport has cost us would completely be repaid back to us, and we can use the money to pay our debt and also begin to look at other projects.”<\/p>\n
Regarding the airport’s readiness for commercial operations, he stated, “This airport, sometime by the end of November, December would be fully granted approval. Commercial operations would start here. It means that you can board a flight to Abuja, Port Harcourt, and I am sure that by the end of the year, you will begin to see international flights leave wherever and land in this airport by the grace of God.”<\/p>\n
Governor Abiodun emphasized the state’s commitment to building a world-class airport and its strategic approach of attracting international airport operators to take over the facility. He highlighted the significance of self-funding the project and then offering it for concession, making it an attractive prospect for global airport operators.<\/p>\n
The governor noted that the airport’s global appeal has garnered substantial interest from international airport operators, validating the state’s efforts and vision in developing this project.
