The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has encountered delays in the payment of insured deposits to some former Heritage Bank customers due to discrepancies in account names linked to Bank Verification Numbers (BVN). Mr. Bello Hassan, NDIC\u2019s Managing Director, disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that while a substantial number of depositors have already received payments, others are facing challenges due to mismatched account details.<\/p>\n
“We have initiated payments since June 6 and have successfully disbursed a significant amount to customers. Our process relies heavily on BVN to locate alternate accounts in other banks for payment,” Mr. Hassan explained. “However, discrepancies in account names are causing delays. We urge affected customers to visit the NDIC website and complete verification forms, even if their accounts are not BVN-linked.”<\/p>\n
For depositors with balances exceeding five million naira, Mr. Hassan assured them of receiving liquidation dividends. He emphasized that the NDIC has commenced the liquidation process, which involves selling physical assets and recovering loans disbursed by the bank.<\/p>\n
“We are committed to paying these liquidation dividends as we recover assets, without waiting for full recovery,” he stated. “We will continue to communicate updates and encourage depositors to monitor their accounts for payment alerts.”<\/p>\n
