{"id":36864,"date":"2024-07-01T11:25:59","date_gmt":"2024-07-01T11:25:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=36864"},"modified":"2024-07-01T11:26:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-01T11:26:19","slug":"36864","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/07\/01\/36864\/","title":{"rendered":"2024 BET Awards: Tems and Tyla Triumph"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>2024 BET Awards: Tems and Tyla Triumph<\/h3>\n<p>The 2024 BET Awards, held at Los Angeles&#8217;s Peacock Theater on Sunday night, celebrated the best in music, with Nigerian singer Tems making a significant impact as the only Nigerian winner of the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Tems clinched the Dr Bobby Jones Best Gospel\/Inspirational Award for her song &#8220;Me &amp; U,&#8221; beating out tough competition from Gospel heavyweights such as Kirk Franklin, Shirley Caesar, and Maverick City.<\/p>\n<p>However, other Nigerian artists faced stiffer competition. Ayra Starr and Asake were contenders for the Best International Act, which ultimately went to South Africa\u2019s Tyla. Ayra Starr also missed out on the Best New Artist award and the BET Her award, both won by Tyla and Victoria Mon\u00e9t, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Seyi Vibez, another Nigerian hopeful, lost the Best New International Act to South Africa\u2019s Makhadzi.
