Boeing is set to resume the delivery of widebody jets to China, following a temporary halt due to a regulatory review by Chinese authorities, according to a source familiar with the situation.<\/p>\n
Deliveries of Boeing’s widebody 777 and 787 planes are expected to proceed in the coming days. Additionally, the company anticipates resuming deliveries of its 737 MAX jets as early as next month.<\/p>\n
This development marks a significant boost for Boeing, which had previously flagged the delay to investors. The temporary suspension of deliveries was first reported in May by Reuters, which attributed the halt to a review by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). The review focused on the batteries contained in the 25-hour cockpit voice recorder.<\/p>\n
Boeing has directed inquiries regarding the situation to the Chinese regulator.<\/p>\n
The delays, coupled with disruptions at Boeing\u2019s factories, led Boeing CFO Brian West to predict in May that the company\u2019s cash burn for the second quarter could match or slightly exceed the $3.9 billion reported in the first quarter.<\/p>\n
In a year-end 2023 filing, Boeing said it had about 140 737 MAX 8 aircraft in inventory, including 85 aircraft for customers in China. Boeing delivered 22 aircraft to China between the start of 2024 and the end of April.<\/p>\n
The Chinese review had impacted Boeing’s commercial jet deliveries, which are not expected to increase in the second quarter compared with the first three months of the year.<\/p>\n
