Notable among them were Mayowa Ajemoju Boboye, APC Ward 8 leader, Deborah Owosusi, Ademola Ajonijebu, and Oloro Alejo. They expressed frustration over being overlooked despite their significant contributions to the APC’s victories in past general elections and the re-election of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, now succeeded by Governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Members of the Ebira community, led by Azeez Ibrahim, also declared their support for the PDP candidate ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial poll.

Akinwande Fayinminu, the APC Organizing Secretary in Akure South, spoke on behalf of the defectors, criticizing the APC leadership for deceit and lack of internal democracy, which he claimed hindered members’ development. “The APC lacks internal democracy, that is why they are factionalized. Since they came to power, they have not integrated many members of the party,” Fayinminu stated.

At the event, Boboye emphasized the growing hunger and hardship under the APC’s governance. “There is more hunger in the land, and they have failed to attend to this. The party’s popularity in the state is waning gradually, and we have to look back and return home to join forces with the PDP to rebuild the state,” he said.

Receiving the defectors, PDP gubernatorial candidate Hon. Agboola Ajayi, alongside the Acting Chairman of PDP, Bashorun Tola Alabere, and other party chieftains, highlighted the widespread suffering, hunger, and anger among the people due to the APC-led administration’s mismanagement in Ondo State. Ajayi assured the populace of a comprehensive repositioning of the state if elected in the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial poll.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has seen its ranks decimated ahead of the November 16th governorship election in Ondo State, as hundreds of its members deserted to the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
