According to BBC reports, the couple succumbed to heatstroke after walking for over two hours in temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n<p>The Wuries were among more than 1,300 people who died from the extreme heat during this year\u2019s Hajj in Mecca, the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad. Their daughter, Saida Wurie, shared her last communication with her parents with News4 on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She let me know that they had been walking for over two hours to get to Mount Arafat, which is part of the Hajj process,&#8221; Saida recounted. &#8220;They weren&#8217;t the best of conditions. Transportation should have been provided. They paid for transportation to be provided, however, there was none. Despite everything, they still walked and pushed to what they wanted to do because of their religion. It&#8217;s something that they wanted to do their entire lives. They were beyond excited.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Saudi officials confirmed on Sunday that over 1,300 people died during this year&#8217;s Hajj pilgrimage. The Hajj, which Muslims are expected to undertake at least once in their lifetime, was particularly challenging this year due to the extreme heat conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The Hajj pilgrimage is one of the five pillars of Islam, requiring Muslims to perform it at least once in their lifetime if they are physically and financially able. This year, however, the intense heat made the journey perilous for many pilgrims. The Wurie couple, deeply committed to their faith, had been looking forward to this spiritual journey for years.<\/p>\n<p>Their tragic deaths highlight the severe conditions faced by many pilgrims during the Hajj. Despite the challenges, the Wuries were determined to complete their pilgrimage, driven by their unwavering faith. &#8220;My parents were devout Muslims who believed deeply in the importance of the Hajj,&#8221; Saida said. &#8220;They prepared for this journey for years and were so excited to finally make it happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response to the extreme weather conditions, Saudi authorities have been urged to improve the infrastructure and support systems for future Hajj pilgrimages.
