The incident occurred when the Mazda bus, reportedly traveling at excessive speed, lost control and rammed into the truck from behind. The impact was severe, resulting in the loss of life and numerous injuries.<\/p>\n
Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), released a statement on Tuesday detailing the crash. The statement disclosed, “The crash occurred at 2133 hrs last night involving 18 persons, comprising 15 male adults and 3 female adults. A total of 11 people were injured (9 male adults and 2 female adults), while 7 persons were recorded dead (5 male and 2 female). The vehicles involved were a truck with no registration number and a Mazda bus MNY894 YN.”<\/p>\n
Okpe further explained that the suspected cause of the crash was the excessive speed of the Mazda bus driver, who failed to control the vehicle and collided with the truck from behind. The injured victims were promptly taken to PATMAG Hospital Ogere for medical attention, while the deceased were transported to the FOS morgue in Ipara.<\/p>\n
Ogun FRSC Sector Commander Anthony Uga has cautioned motorists to adhere to speed limits, especially at night and during adverse weather conditions when visibility is poor. Uga extended his sympathies to the families of the crash victims and urged passengers to remain vigilant, encouraging them to call drivers to order if they are driving recklessly.
