Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has refuted claims of an assassination attempt on his life by the military, as previously alleged by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo.<\/p>\n

Fanwo had reported that gunmen wearing military uniforms tried to assassinate the Governor while he was en route to Abuja. He claimed that the assailants had opened fire on Bello’s convoy around 4 pm on a Sunday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Information Commissioner further stated that Governor Bello had been attacked at three separate points along the Lokoja-Abuja highway, with the last incident occurring around the Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/p>\n

However, Governor Bello has contradicted his Commissioner’s assertions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In a statement to reporters at his residence in Abuja, the Governor clarified that there was an altercation involving his security personnel and other security operatives at a checkpoint on the road. He acknowledged that the situation was subsequently resolved.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Bello explained, “This afternoon, at about 14:00 hours, I left Lokoja en route to Abuja, and the journey was smooth with the convoy. However, at around 16:00 hours, my convoy, particularly the security team, had an encounter with another sister security agency, resulting in a confrontation.”<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He continued, “We promptly intervened and resolved the situation. Subsequently, we continued our journey to Abuja without any further incident. Since my arrival in Abuja, I have been actively engaged in various activities for the purpose of my visit, which have proceeded without any disruptions.”<\/p>\n

Governor Bello emphasized, “I want to state unequivocally and emphatically, dear Nigerians, that there was no assassination attempt on me, Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, by the military or any other party.”<\/p>\n
