An Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has granted a housewife, Marya Abubakar, a divorce from her husband, Misbahudeen Kareem, due to his inability to provide for her. The court’s decision follows Marya’s request for divorce based on claims of neglect and disrespect from her husband.<\/p>\n
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Judge Mohammed Wakili dissolved the two-year-old marriage in accordance with Islamic Law. Marya had petitioned for the divorce, citing her husband’s lack of care and respect as the primary reasons for her request.<\/p>\n
Judge Wakili also instructed Marya to observe the “Iddah” (waiting period) of three months as mandated by Islamic injunctions before she can enter into another marriage.<\/p>\n
During the proceedings, Marya recounted that she married Misbahudeen in June 2021 under Islamic law, and they had no children together. She revealed that issues began to surface just six months into their marriage, leading to frequent quarrels and verbal abuse.
