{"id":35751,"date":"2024-06-21T15:09:37","date_gmt":"2024-06-21T15:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=35751"},"modified":"2024-06-21T15:09:37","modified_gmt":"2024-06-21T15:09:37","slug":"world-environment-day-nnpc-foundation-offers-tree-planting-campaign-to-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/06\/21\/world-environment-day-nnpc-foundation-offers-tree-planting-campaign-to-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"World Environment Day: NNPC Foundation Offers Tree Planting Campaign to Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Gabriella Ogbu<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Foundation encouraged students at Badagry Senior Secondary School to plant trees in observance of World Environment Day.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Henrietta Obioma-Igwe, the foundation&#8217;s manager of program development, underlined the importance of conservation work and tree planting during the ceremony to protect a safe and sustainable environment.<\/p>\n<p>She emphasized the 2024 edition&#8217;s subject, &#8220;Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,&#8221; which is observed on June 5 every year worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tree planting minimizes and prevents environmental challenges and supports ecosystem survival,&#8221; stated Obioma-Igwe. In addition to producing oxygen that is essential for human and animal life and regulating local climates, trees also shade spaces, absorb carbon dioxide to slow down global warming, and chill the air through transpiration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She clarified that Badagry was picked because it is a border hamlet and an important point of entry into the nation. The foundation&#8217;s continuous efforts to support environmental sustainability included the planting of seventy trees at Badagry Senior Secondary School.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kenneth Adeoni, the principal of the school, conveyed his appreciation for the NNPC Foundation&#8217;s effort to teach pupils environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the value of preserving the environment for coming generations and the contribution that planting trees can make to reducing global warming.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Underlining the educational impact of the sensitization campaign on students&#8217; comprehension of environmental issues, Adeoni advised Nigerians to regularly plant and care for trees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Miss Martin Tunde, the Assistant Chief Education Officer for Education District 5, reiterated the need of planting trees as a means of combating climate change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Gabriella Ogbu The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Foundation encouraged students at Badagry Senior Secondary School to plant trees in observance of World Environment Day.
