The Commissioner for Health in Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Augustine Umoh, has announced that the state government has implemented precautionary measures to prevent a cholera outbreak. In an interview on Friday, Umoh stated that while there have been no reported cases of cholera in Akwa Ibom, the government has initiated an intensive sensitization campaign across the state’s 31 Local Government Areas to emphasize the importance of personal and environmental hygiene.<\/p>\n
Umoh highlighted that the government has stocked emergency supplies, including fluids and essential medications, in all Primary Health Centres to address any potential outbreak promptly.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor now, there is no reported case of cholera outbreak in the state. We have commenced sensitization of residents to maintain hygiene both personal and environmental,” said Umoh. “Residents during this period are advised to boil and cool water before drinking, wash their hands with soap and clean water regularly, especially after using the toilet and before eating, and wash fruits and other food items before consumption.”<\/p>\n
He also advised residents to take salt sugar solution in case of diarrhoea and to report to the nearest health centre for prompt medical attention.<\/p>\n
