To realize this and implement other necessary measures to enhance the nation&#8217;s electoral process, Jega has recommended amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging that the current version of the electoral act is the best in Nigeria&#8217;s history, the former INEC chairman emphasized the need for further amendments to eliminate ambiguities and enhance certain sections.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jega made these recommendations during a two-day retreat organized for senators by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, &#8220;Review the process of appointments into INEC, specifically to divest\/minimize the involvement of the President in the appointment of the Chairman and National Commissioners of INEC, in order to free the commission from the damaging negative perception of &#8216;he who pays the piper dictates the tune.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jega stressed that the proposed amendments should make the electronic transmission of results mandatory from the next general elections in 2027.
