The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) issued a firm message on Friday, urging the leading Igbo Social Cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo, not to obstruct the pursuit of a sovereign state of Biafra with a call for restructuring within Nigeria.<\/p>\n

In addition, the pro-Biafra group cautioned politicians from Abuja and other non-South East states who claim to represent Ohaneze Ndigbo but may lack a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the people of the South East in Nigeria. IPoB called on these politicians to be cautious in their comments regarding the actualization of Biafra.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by IPoB, titled “Ohaneze Ndigbo must be very careful not to stand in the way of the Biafran people with their restructuring nonsense,” the group singled out Mr. Augustine Amaechi, who was identified as claiming to be a chieftain of Ohaneze Ndigbo. IPoB advised Mr. Amaechi to exercise care in his statements concerning Biafra’s actualization, which IPoB actively champions.<\/p>\n

Responding to Mr. Amaechi’s comments, the pro-Biafra group conveyed their perspective: “We and our supporters worldwide represent over 90% of Biafrans. We have made it clear to the Nigerian government and the international community that Biafrans want a referendum to democratically decide to either remain in Nigeria or exit Nigeria.”<\/p>\n

IPoB’s statement stressed, “The attention of the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, has been drawn to the unguarded statements credited to one Abuja-based Ohaneze Ndigbo chieftain, Mr. Augustine Amaechi, claiming that Ohaneze Ndigbo wants to restructure, not a referendum.”<\/p>\n

“The few political jobbers in Ohaneze Ndigbo demanding restructuring should perish with it. Biafrans want a referendum. We IPoB members and our supporters worldwide represent over 90% of Biafrans.”<\/p>\n

The group emphasized its steadfast commitment to a United Nations (UN)-supervised referendum within Nigeria to determine the quest for Biafran Independence. They view this as the primary and non-negotiable demand, stating, “Once the Nigerian government heeds our democratic demand for a Biafra referendum, Nigeria’s major problem will be solved.”<\/p>\n

Furthermore, IPoB conveyed its view that the era of individuals, particularly those with red caps, claiming to speak for the Igbo community has passed, and stressed that their focus remains on achieving a referendum as a means of settling the Biafra question.<\/p>\n
