This statement was made during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) from Delaware, USA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In his statement, Nnaji emphasized that human space flight has been a long-standing goal for Nigeria, rooted in the National Space Policy and Program (NSPP) approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2001. The initial plan was to have the first human space flight by 2018, but various delays have pushed the timeline forward.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nnaji highlighted that the MOU signing is a testament to the rigorous efforts to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s Renewed Hope Agenda. As part of this mission, SERA has reserved six seats for an upcoming New Shepard launch, with Nigeria being one of the participating countries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria\u2019s selection for this historic opportunity aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and highlights the country\u2019s growing significance in the global space community,\u201d said Nnaji.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Matthew Adepoju, Director General of NASRDA, stated, \u201cWe pride ourselves as the Premier Space Agency in Africa. The Agency has successfully launched six satellite missions since its inception, with our engineers playing a crucial role in these missions. Today marks the commencement of our effort to achieve our dream of Human Space Flight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SERA co-founders, Joshua Skurla and Sam Hutchison, expressed their excitement about the partnership, stating that the mission aims to promote access to space and inspire young Nigerians to pursue careers in science, engineering, and mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope for this mission is to raise awareness among young people in Nigeria about the possibilities in space and to promote broader public support for space activities in Nigeria,\u201d said Skurla and Hutchison.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, announced that Nigeria is prepared to launch its first human space flight.
