Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced stringent conditions for land allocation to government agencies within the FCT. He emphasized that his administration will only grant land allocations to agencies demonstrating commitment and the capacity to develop the land within specific timeframes.<\/p>\n
Wike made this declaration during a courtesy visit by the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, to his office in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The FCT Minister explained that this decision is aimed at discouraging land speculation in the FCT and preventing land allocations from being left undeveloped for extended periods. He further warned that allocations not developed within the designated timeframe would face the risk of being revoked.<\/p>\n
Under the new policy, any agency seeking land allocation will be required to commit to a predetermined timeline for development. Minister Wike emphasized, “My policy now, before I approve land to any agency, that agency will commit that it will develop this land within so, so number of years. If you do not develop, the FCT should take back the land.”<\/p>\n
In response to a request from the acting customs boss for land allocation to construct a school for the agency’s staff, Wike stated that the allocation would be approved on the condition that the agency commits to a development timeline and pays the required ground rent.<\/p>\n
Wike asserted, “I will not allocate land that will be till Thursday kingdom come. You must convince me that you are truly serious about building schools for your staff and their children within a specified number of years, and if that is not accomplished, the FCT will take back the land.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
