He stated that the meeting was convened due to threats to state peace arising from the tenure expiration of outgoing local government chairmen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will fearlessly lead the way to ensure that peace continues to prevail in the state while protecting patriotic supporters for their stand on the path of truth. The law on local government tenure is unambiguous. The court clearly affirmed the position of the law. The law is the law. There is no extension of the local government tenure in it. The court says so,&#8221; Fubara declared.<\/p>\n<p>The governor assured that he would protect his supporters and resist any attempts to unjustly arrest them.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Fubara expressed gratitude to the media and the peace-loving citizens of the state for their ongoing support, urging everyone to remain law-abiding to ensure unity and progress in Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the governor directed heads of administration in the 23 local government areas to take over from the elected council chairmen whose three-year tenure ended on Monday. This directive was issued during a state broadcast on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Fubara highlighted that the decision aligns with constitutional provisions and aims to maintain peace and order in the state. He also acknowledged the efforts and dedication of the outgoing council chairmen to public service, thanking them for their contributions during their tenure.<\/p>\n<p>The governor&#8217;s stance underscores the importance of adhering to constitutional mandates and judicial rulings, particularly concerning governance and leadership transitions at the local government level.
