(Dr) Ibrahim Gaidam, urging his intervention in the ongoing leadership dispute within their umbrella body, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).<\/p>\n<p>In the petition addressed to the Minister of Police Affairs and copied to relevant agencies, including the presidency, the aggrieved members expressed concern over alleged attempts by a faction of the union to manipulate the upcoming election in their favor. They accused certain members of resorting to police intervention and called on the minister and other relevant agencies to ensure justice.<\/p>\n<p>Signed by Ikechukwu Okpalaelechi of Indepth Legal Consults, the petition highlighted allegations of harassment, intimidation, and mistreatment of selected members by certain NUPENG leaders, allegedly in collusion with corrupt police officers. These actions, they claimed, aimed to manipulate electoral agreements and bylaws and incite public disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the aggrieved members alleged that certain top NUPENG officials and the police are disregarding judgments from the National Industrial Court, Bayelsa State division, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The petition referenced a case where Comrade Godwin Ewhrudjakpor challenged the membership of Comrade Lucky Osesua from Warri Zone, Delta State, in PTD. Despite this challenge, Osesua participated in and won the election as the national chairman of PTD-Extraction during a delegates\u2019 conference in Ibadan in June 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Although the court affirmed Osesua&#8217;s membership in PTD, it nullified the election and dissolved the National Executive Council formed due to the election held in Ibadan.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners appealed to the minister to intervene, restore justice, unity, and harmony within PTD, and investigate the involvement of security agencies in harassment and intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>The petition concluded by urging the minister to use his office to ensure a fair resolution of the dispute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aggrieved members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) have submitted a petition to the Minister of Police Affairs, Sen.
