Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has revealed how viral videos falsely portraying him as mentally unwell led to a significant loss of job opportunities. In an interview with media personality Lucky Udu, Anuku clarified that the videos from 2023, which showed him wandering the streets, talking to himself, and appearing disheveled, were taken out of context. He explained that he was merely preparing for a role as a madman.<\/p>\n

“That day, I was trying to get into character for a role I was going to play, a madman role. Someone who was not in his correct senses or right frame of mind,” Anuku said. “I did it in the neighbourhood to show the way the director would have wanted it. I was meditating and trying to get into character, that’s it. I was not even aware that I was being recorded. I was concentrating on myself and my script.”<\/p>\n

Anuku addressed the rumors of insanity that had spread across the internet, firmly stating that he was never on drugs and is in good health.<\/p>\n

“People have said a lot of stuff. Rumors are rumors. They said I was sick and I was on drugs. I was not on drugs. Maybe they saw me depressed because depression can cause stress. But me, being on drugs? That’s not true. I’m not a madman. I’m very sane and healthy. I exercise a lot and do my martial arts and sports,” he explained.<\/p>\n

These false perceptions not only affected his public image but also impacted his career, leading to a loss of work in the industry.
