A court in the United Kingdom has sentenced primary school teacher Fiona Beal to 20 years in prison for stabbing her partner, Nicholas Billingham, to death and burying his body in their garden.<\/p>\n

Judge Mark Lucraft imposed a mandatory life sentence on the 50-year-old convict, stipulating that she must serve the 20-year term before being eligible for parole. The sentence was handed down at the Old Bailey on Thursday, following Beal’s guilty plea in April to killing her partner of 17 years, allegedly due to his affair with another woman.<\/p>\n

The court heard that the remains of 42-year-old Billingham were discovered in March 2022 in Northampton, although he had last been seen alive on November 1, 2021. His body was found buried under makeshift layers of sheeting and concrete.<\/p>\n

In his ruling, Judge Lucraft stated, “Having moved and buried the body in the garden, you then lied to his mother, numerous friends, all his family, and yours as to what you had done and where he was. There was lie after lie.”<\/p>\n

Yvonne Valentine, the mother of the deceased, described Beal as “pure evil” in a victim impact statement read out in court. She recounted having a Christmas drink with Beal on December 23, 2021, unaware that her son’s body was just feet away.<\/p>\n

The court also heard that Billingham had renovated a house on the day he died before returning to the home he shared with Beal in Northampton. Prosecutor Hugh Davies KC described Billingham’s death as a “carefully planned domestic execution,” stating that Beal had stabbed him in the neck and disposed of his body.<\/p>\n

Outside the court, James Smith, Billingham’s cousin, told the BBC, “Nothing can ever bring him back and no sentence would ever feel enough.”<\/p>\n

Andrew Baxter, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) at East Midlands, said after the hearing that Beal “exploited a narrative that she was the victim of abuse at the hands of her long-term partner, but rather than leave the relationship, she killed him in a planned, cold-blooded execution when he thought he was safe with his partner.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
