This commitment was emphasized by the state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, during a ministerial briefing marking the first year of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s second tenure.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Robert stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu is dedicated to making Lagos a 21st-century economy and delivering a greater Lagos for all.

“The Governor intends to actualize the dream of making Lagos a 21st-century economy and delivering the reality of a greater Lagos,” said Robert.

A significant part of this commitment includes substantial financial support for the families of deceased Local Government and SUBEB staff. Over the past year, the state government has disbursed more than N391 million to 164 beneficiaries. This demonstrates the administration’s dedication to supporting its employees and their families.

Robert emphasized that his ministry remains focused and relentless in its mission to bring the dividends of democracy to the citizens of Lagos, fully actualizing the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda. This agenda encompasses traffic management and transportation, health and environment, education and technology, making Lagos a 21st-century economy, entertainment and tourism, and security and governance.

In the past year, the ministry has engaged critical stakeholders and had direct interactions with Local Government Councils to foster development at the grassroots level. These efforts have resulted in ongoing rural-urban renewal projects, reducing rural-urban migration and enhancing the quality of life for rural residents.

“One of these efforts is the two-day capacity-building workshop the ministry recently organized for 376 Councillors across the councils, aimed at improving the law-making capacity of Councillors across the 57 councils,” Robert noted.

Additionally, the ministry has continued to monitor and inspect projects and markets across the 57 Councils. This ongoing oversight ensures proper hygiene, cleanliness, waste management, and structural safety of facilities in public markets, contributing to safer and cleaner environments for residents.

“Our commitment to these initiatives has led to significant improvements in safety and cleanliness in public markets,” Robert added.

The Lagos State government has reassured residents that the current administration will prioritize all-inclusive governance to ensure no one is left behind.
