The handover took place yesterday at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Central Store in Maiduguri, the state capital. Mallam Zubaida Umar, the Director-General of NEMA, presented the items to Governor Babagana Zulum.<\/p>\n<p>President Bola Tinubu approved the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains from the national reserve to help mitigate the economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. Represented by NEMA&#8217;s Northeast zonal director, Mallam Yakubu Suleiman, the DG emphasized that this action fulfills Tinubu\u2019s promise to support vulnerable Nigerians with food from the strategic grain reserve managed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The assorted food items include maize, sorghum, millet, and garri. Borno State has been allocated 594 metric tonnes of maize (over 11,000 bags), 252 metric tonnes of millet (5,130 bags), and 9,972 metric tonnes of sorghum (69,409 bags),&#8221; Umar detailed.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Governor Zulum expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the people of Borno State. He assured the federal government that the food items would reach the most vulnerable members of society.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On behalf of the government and the people of Borno State, I want to profoundly express our appreciation to the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu for allocating over 37,000 bags of assorted food items to our vulnerable citizens,&#8221; Zulum said. &#8220;I want to use this medium to assure the federal government that the grains will be judiciously distributed to the underprivileged, the most vulnerable, and deserving households in the state.
