Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has disclosed that his administration inherited a significant debt burden totaling N359 billion, largely due to the non-payment of staff salaries, pensions, gratuities, and domestic liabilities from the previous administration. He characterized this debt as a significant challenge his government faces in the state.<\/p>\n

During his meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Alia emphasized his administration’s commitment to renegotiating these debts, aiming to put the state on a more sustainable path for gradual repayment.<\/p>\n

He noted that once these measures are successfully implemented, state workers can expect to receive their salaries promptly, with the goal of ensuring payments on the 25th of every month, in line with his promise upon taking office in May of this year.<\/p>\n

Governor Alia also revealed that his administration is actively working to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which will play a pivotal role in addressing outstanding pension and salary obligations.<\/p>\n
