Highlighting the pivotal role played by private security guards in both the development and national security framework of various nations globally, Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the necessity for Nigeria to align with international standards in security practices, particularly considering the current security challenges facing the nation.<\/p>\n
“The potential of private security guards remains underutilized, and the impact of this industry on our national security has been hindered by a lack of standardization,” stated Mr. Tunji-Ojo. “Through policy formulation and adherence to global best practices, the establishment of a database for productivity and efficiency becomes imperative.”<\/p>\n
The proposed initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities and significantly enhance security across various sectors, thereby instilling confidence among citizens, both in formal and informal settings.<\/p>\n
Minister Tunji-Ojo articulated concerns regarding the prevalence of misconduct among some private guards and emphasized the importance of addressing such issues through the implementation of a reliable database. “It is difficult for me to entrust my family’s safety to a guard who may have a criminal background.
