{"id":32006,"date":"2024-05-20T14:20:34","date_gmt":"2024-05-20T14:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=32006"},"modified":"2024-05-20T14:20:34","modified_gmt":"2024-05-20T14:20:34","slug":"naptip-decries-surge-in-baby-factories-across-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/05\/20\/naptip-decries-surge-in-baby-factories-across-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"NAPTIP Decries Surge in Baby Factories Across Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), on Monday, decried the recent surge in baby factories across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The agency\u2019s director-general, Fatima Waziri-Azi, expressed the concern in a statement in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ms Waziri-Azi, in recent times, there have been alarming reports and public outcry regarding sales of babies and the existence of facilities specialising in trapping young girls and recruiting men to impregnate them.<\/p>\n<p>She said such babies were subsequently sold after delivery.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Waziri-Azi noted that the baby factories operate clandestinely, preying on the desperation and vulnerability of unsuspecting victims, often luring them with promises of financial gains or false assurances of care and support.<\/p>\n<p>She said one of the most recent incidents occurred in Umunkwa village, in Umuafai Ndume Ibeku area, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia, where\u00a010\u00a0victims were rescued from a baby factory.<\/p>\n<p>She said the suspects and the victims had been handed over to the NAPTIP Abia State Liaison Office for further investigation and appropriate action.<\/p>\n<p>The director-general urged the public, particularly parents, to be vigilant and ensure that their wards did not fall victim to unscrupulous individuals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), on Monday, decried the recent surge in baby factories across the country.
