Speaker of the assembly, Adewale Egbedun, disclosed this during the Monday plenary session.

Titled the “Osun State Public/Political Office Holders Reviewed Remuneration Package (Amendment No. 2) Bill 2024,” the salary increment bill was initially presented to the assembly on April 30. It was introduced as a private member bill by Kofoworola Adewunmi, the majority leader and representative of Ede North State Constituency.

During the presentation, Ms. Adewunmi outlined the rationale behind the bill, noting that the last salary review for public and political office holders in the state occurred in 2007. She emphasized that the economic landscape has significantly changed since then and that the current salaries outlined in the Osun State Public/Political Office Holders Remuneration Package Law 2007 are no longer reflective of present economic realities.

Ms. Adewunmi highlighted the importance of aligning the salaries with the living standards and Governor Adeleke’s five-point agenda. She also referenced a previous state assembly resolution from May 8, 2008, which called for an upward review of remuneration packages for some public/political office holders not covered by the revenue mobilization, allocation, and fiscal commission.

Clarifying the scope of the bill, Ms. Adewunmi stated that the salary increment does not affect or cover lawmakers’ salaries, pointing out that state lawmakers’ salaries are statutorily reviewed by the National Assembly.

The Osun House of Assembly has announced its intention to forward a bill aimed at increasing the salary packages of certain public and political office holders to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
