The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against two unregistered factories operating in Lafia and Obi Local Government Areas of Nasarawa state. Mr. Matthew Adeoye, the NAFDAC Coordinator in the state, revealed this development during an interview with Newsmen in Lafia on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Adeoye disclosed that the sealed facilities include an agrochemical factory in Lafia and a table water producing factory in Obi. He explained that regulatory officers of the Agency conducted a raid on May 9, uncovering falsified and substandard products being manufactured at these establishments.<\/p>\n
“The companies specialized in the manufacturing of falsified and adulterated agrochemicals and unapproved packaged water,” Adeoye stated, highlighting the detrimental effects of such activities on agricultural produce and public health.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that both factories were operating without the necessary approvals, contravening the provisions of the NAFDAC Act. Adeoye underscored the risks associated with the use of adulterated products, which often lead to economic losses, harm to livestock, and adverse effects on human health.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Adeoye noted serious violations of hygiene standards at the table water producing facility, highlighting the importance of adhering to water treatment procedures outlined by NAFDAC.<\/p>\n
As part of the enforcement measures, the Agency confiscated equipment from the factories and sealed the premises pending further investigation.
