{"id":31234,"date":"2024-05-13T18:02:52","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T18:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=31234"},"modified":"2024-05-13T18:02:52","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T18:02:52","slug":"police-arrest-two-over-car-theft-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/05\/13\/police-arrest-two-over-car-theft-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Arrest two Over car Theft in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it arrested two suspects in connection with car theft in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Benneth Igweh, said this during a media briefing on Monday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He said the suspects were trailed and arrested on May 1 by police operatives from the Apo Legislative Quarters Division following credible intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Igweh said the suspects, who have been on the wanted list of the command, were part of a notorious car theft syndicate terrorising the FCT and its environs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Toyota Camry with special registration no. Lagos 23, an Audi A4 with registration no. KRD 349 JD and a Honda Accord Sports with registration no. BDG 42 JC were recovered from the suspects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chassis of some of the recovered vehicles had been altered by the suspects,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Igweh said police operatives from Maitama Division\u00a0arrested four suspects on April 7\u00a0while on routine patrol over a \u201cone-chance\u201d robbery.<\/p>\n<p>He said the operatives on patrol along the Nicon Junction area of Abuja heard a loud cry and swiftly mobilised to the location where a victim of \u201cone chance\u201d pushed out of a vehicle was found.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Igweh said the victim was dispossessed of all her belongings,\u00a0and\u00a0in response, the operative gave the hoodlums a hot chase, forcing them to abandon their vehicle and take to their heels.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the information recovered from the vehicle led police operatives to arrest four suspects.<\/p>\n<p>He said the suspects had freely confessed to the commission of the crime.<\/p>\n<p>On April 15, operatives from the Lugbe Division arrested six suspects in connection with a \u201cone-chance\u201d robbery in the Lugbe area of Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The CP said the suspects were arrested following a report by one Magaji Umar at Lugbe Division that on April 14, he boarded a vehicle from Lugbe going to Area 1.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Igweh said the complainant had told police operatives that he was suddenly attacked by the two occupants of the moving vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>He said\u00a0the victim was forcefully made\u00a0to part with N2.2 million, which was removed from his account.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Igweh said subsequent investigations led police operatives to arrest six suspects and recover the N2.2 million removed from the victim\u2019s account.<\/p>\n<p>He said a black Toyota\u00a0Corolla\u00a0with registration number GWA 227 BG and a Golf 3 Salon car with registration number KWL 200 CF were recovered from the suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The CP said other items recovered from the suspects were two\u00a0locally-made\u00a0cartridge rifles, one\u00a0locally-made\u00a0pistol, one\u00a0locally-made\u00a0rifle, ten live cartridges and six live\u00a0ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Igweh said the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it arrested two suspects in connection with car theft in Abuja.
