{"id":30962,"date":"2024-05-10T14:00:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T14:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=30962"},"modified":"2024-05-10T14:00:16","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T14:00:16","slug":"fg-encourages-girls-to-pursue-ict-careers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/05\/10\/fg-encourages-girls-to-pursue-ict-careers\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Encourages Girls to Pursue ICT Careers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Gabriella Ogbu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government has called upon young girls nationwide to cultivate an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) studies, particularly to inspire them to pursue careers in Information and Communications Technology (ICT).<\/p>\n<p>During the commemoration of the International Day for Girls in ICT at the Universal Basic Education Commission&#8217;s Digital Resource Centre in Abuja, Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, emphasized the importance of encouraging girls to explore opportunities in ICT, highlighting its vast potential for career growth.<\/p>\n<p>Represented by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, Director of Basic Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Mamman reiterated the government&#8217;s commitment to promoting ICT in education, citing the commission&#8217;s dedication to utilizing ICTs in educational activities, including the development of the Digital Resource Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, Executive Secretary of UBEC, echoed this commitment, encouraging female students and instructors to embrace ICTs in education, citing its global success in enhancing learning outcomes and improving access to quality education.<\/p>\n<p>The event also saw participation from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), with the Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented by Director of IT Infrastructure Solutions, Mr. Oladejo Olawomi, commending UBEC&#8217;s efforts in promoting ICT education and pledging ongoing support.<\/p>\n<p>The three-day event included a boot camp for female students from 20 junior secondary schools in the FCT, featuring hands-on exercises in robotics, web development, graphic design, mobile app development, and data analysis, alongside training sessions for accompanying teachers.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate event, Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, reaffirmed the government&#8217;s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting technical innovation during the 2024 Rwanda International Competition Award Ceremony and the USA World Robotics Festival in Abuja.
