The Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, located in Ikeja, Lagos, took a significant step on Thursday by handing over confiscated items to relevant authorities. Among the items handed over were fake $1.2 million notes and five cryptocurrency machines, which were transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Additionally, 148 pieces of Unmanned Area Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, along with 112 military hardware and accessories, two bulletproof helmets, and two Army vests were handed over to the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army in Lagos.<\/p>\n
The Customs Area Controller, Compt. Charles Orbih, emphasized that the directive to hand over the seized items was in alignment with the guidelines set by the Comptroller General of NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. Orbih highlighted that the importers of the UAVs failed to provide an End-User Certificate from the Office of the National Security Adviser.<\/p>\n
The confiscated items were received by the EFCC’s Assistant Commander, Oguzi Moses, and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Muhammad Usman. Major General Usman expressed gratitude for the collaboration between Customs and the Nigerian Army, acknowledging the efforts of Compt. Orbih and the Customs CG. He emphasized the importance of preventing such equipment from falling into the wrong hands and highlighted the role of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring national security.<\/p>\n
