Speaking at the 2024 close-out ceremony of the Accelerating Youth Participation in Governance (AYPG2024) Fellowship organized by PROMAD in Abuja, themed “Rethinking Youth Participation in Governance in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” Gbadamosi urged the successful fellows to leverage technology for proactive engagement in leadership, political participation, and governance matters.<\/p>\n
Highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to youth empowerment in politics and economic advancement, Gbadamosi commended his appointment of numerous young individuals to key positions in his administration.<\/p>\n
Encouraging Nigerian youths to align their aspirations with their global counterparts, Gbadamosi stressed the shared passion for national development and urged active engagement in governance processes both locally and in the diaspora.<\/p>\n
Daisi Omokungbe, the Executive Director of PROMAD, outlined the AYPG2024 fellowship’s objective of enhancing youths’ understanding of AI and its implications for leadership, political participation, and governance. He emphasized AI’s importance for youths as agents of new technology and the need to utilize it for informed decision-making.<\/p>\n
Samson Itodo, the Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, echoed the sentiment, highlighting AI’s potential to expedite decision-making, foster economic growth, and enhance critical sectors of the economy and democracy. He cited AI applications in elections, voter registration cleanup, polling unit location, and combating disinformation.<\/p>\n
