Benjamin underscores the effectiveness of the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), introduced in 2017, in streamlining admissions and curbing irregularities.

He notes that the adoption of biometric verification and the mandatory use of National Identification Numbers (NIN) during registration were measures aimed at thwarting malpractices, such as the hiring of “professional examination takers” by candidates.

Benjamin emphasizes that the legitimacy and transparency observed throughout the registration, examination, and admission processes have led many institutions to voluntarily abandon post-UTME. Instead, colleges are focusing on scrutinizing candidates’ credentials after the UTME.

Reflecting on Oloyede’s tenure, Benjamin highlights improvements in examination administration, including the introduction of uniform Computer Based Test (CBT) centers, stringent verification protocols, and real-time monitoring via CCTV cameras.

Beyond examination reforms, Benjamin underscores Oloyede’s commitment to openness, financial prudence, and staff development, which have led to significant cost savings and increased efficiency within the board.

Regarding Direct Entry admissions, Benjamin discusses the implementation of the Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) to authenticate A’Level certificates and curb fraudulent practices in certificate acquisition.

Through these measures, JAMB aims to ensure the integrity and fairness of admissions processes while upholding academic standards in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

By Gabriella Ogbu The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) attributes the diminishing agitation for post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (post-UTME) in Nigerian universities to enhanced processes and credibility in test administration and candidate selection.
