The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued a stern final warning to Arise Television, citing concerns regarding the “use of derogatory and incendiary remarks” in one of its recent programs.<\/p>\n

In a warning letter dated October 6, 2023, and signed by the Commission’s Director-General, Dr. Balarabe Ilelah, the NBC has directed Arise TV to implement a delay mechanism to prevent the dissemination of undesirable content during its broadcasts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This “final warning” by the NBC comes on the heels of a previous incident where the Commission imposed a fine of N2 million on Arise TV for violating Nigeria’s broadcasting codes.<\/p>\n

The letter, addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of Arise Global Media Limited, is titled “Preponderance of Derogatory and Incendiary Remarks: Final Warning.”<\/p>\n

In part, the letter states, “The NBC has observed with concern a preponderance of incendiary remarks allowed on Arise News. This letter seeks to emphasize the significant responsibility placed on the broadcaster to manage the range of guests who may appear on the station from time to time.”<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Commission specifically mentioned a recent episode of the station’s morning show program on October 5, hosted by Reuben Abati, Rufai Oseni, and Ayo Maio-Ese, which featured guests Oladokun Hassan and Dele Farotimi.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“The program contained unguarded incendiary remarks by Dele Farotimi against the Legislature, the Executive, the Judiciary, and Mr. President,” the letter continued.<\/p>\n
