David Umahi, Minister of Works, has accused Peter Obi, former Anambra Governor, of instigating opposition against the federal government’s Lagos-Calabar coastal road project among the people of the South-East.<\/p>\n
Umahi made these remarks during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, addressing concerns surrounding the controversial project, which is expected to traverse several states along the coastline.<\/p>\n
The project has faced scrutiny over funding and the impact on local businesses, with recent comments from Obi criticizing the federal government’s approach, labeling it as a misplaced priority and lamenting the “insensitive” demolition of structures for the project.<\/p>\n
In response, Umahi highlighted Obi’s previous support for similar infrastructure projects during his tenure as governor, accusing him of hypocrisy and inciting unrest among the South-East populace. Umahi stressed that affected property owners are already receiving compensation and condemned Obi’s criticism of the federal government’s handling of the project.<\/p>\n
Umahi clarified that only shanties along the project’s right of way were removed and denied claims of unfair treatment towards Landmark Beach, asserting that the government did not destroy its facilities.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Umahi accused Paul Onwuanibe, CEO of Landmark Africa Group, of politicizing issues related to the project, implying that the concerns raised by Onwuanibe may not be entirely genuine.<\/p>\n
