Olugbenga Edema, a gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has urged workers nationwide not to settle for the N70,000 minimum wage threshold.<\/p>\n
In recognition of workers’ tireless efforts and dedication, Edema emphasized the necessity for a significant increase in the minimum wage to enhance workers’ standard of living.<\/p>\n
Expressing concern over the prevailing economic conditions, Edema asserted that the current minimum wage falls short of meeting workers’ needs and should not be accepted.<\/p>\n
“On this significant occasion of May Day, I commend the invaluable contributions of our workforce to the growth and development of our state and nation,” Edema stated.<\/p>\n
“It is imperative that we prioritize their welfare by establishing a minimum wage that aligns with the present economic realities. The demand for a new minimum wage is now paramount and should be promptly addressed.”<\/p>\n
Edema stressed that workers should not be compelled to cope with a meager N70,000 minimum wage amidst escalating living costs. He proposed a minimum wage of no less than N250,000 monthly, calculated at the rate of N1,250 to a dollar.<\/p>\n
