President Bola Tinubu has authorized the commencement of the design phase for the ambitious 1000-kilometer Sokoto-Badagry Coastal Highway, signaling a significant development in Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, during an inspection visit to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project in Lagos.<\/p>\n
Umahi emphasized the strategic importance of the coastal road, highlighting its role as a vital link connecting various regions of Nigeria, including the South-West, South-South, North-East, North-West, and North-Central.<\/p>\n
Expressing gratitude for President Tinubu’s directive, Umahi stated, “I am happy that Mr. President has also directed me to start the immediate design of the Sokoto-Badagry Coastal Highway.”<\/p>\n
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure nationwide, with the goal of establishing a secure, safe, and sustainable network of roads. He outlined plans to connect all six geo-political zones in Nigeria through a comprehensive road network.<\/p>\n
Umahi also unveiled another proposed spur road, which will stretch from Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja to Cameroon, covering an approximate distance of 361 kilometers.<\/p>\n
“We also have another spur which is going to go from Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja going to Cameroon. So, we have that spur, and it\u2019s about 361 kilometers, going through Otukpo to Benue to Nasarawa and ends up at Apo in Abuja,” he stated.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Umahi revealed that plans are underway to present a proposal to President Tinubu for further approval to complete the coastal routes encircling the entire country.
